$1500 increase on REEFER rates by January 1st 2013

A number of major shipping lines including Maersk, MSC, CMA-CGM, APL, MOL … have announced that they will increase their reefer rates by $1500 in all trade lanes from January 1st 2013.

The reason for this increase is to enable them to maintain their level of service and meet your supply chain needs. The reefer fleet is getting older and most of the equipment needs replacing while the shipping lines’ operational costs are increasing. Temperature controlled containers cost about four times more to build than dry boxes. The shipping lines consider that the current rates are not sufficient and this new investment needs to be recovered through a $1500 increase.

We feel it is important to draw your attention to this matter as you may already be planning your 2013 orders. You can rely on TRANSO to help you to find the best options.
